John Jacobus Flournoy (1809-1879) was a resident of Clarke and Jackson counties, Georgia. Flournoy tried unsuccessfully to get elected or appointed to several political offices. He wrote numerous letters, essays, and pamphlets on an array of topics. He was considered deaf and dumb and fought against laws which classified the physically handicapped as being mentally retarded.
